Egg Freezing (Oocyte Cryopreservation)
Egg freezing, medically known as oocyte cryopreservation, empowers women to preserve their fertility for the future. Whether you are considering delaying motherhood for personal or professional reasons, facing medical treatments that may affect fertility (such as chemotherapy), or simply want the reassurance of having preserved eggs, Turkey's leading fertility centres offer this service with the same advanced vitrification technology used at the world's top reproductive clinics.
Why Freeze Your Eggs
Female fertility declines significantly after age 35, with both the quantity and quality of eggs decreasing. By freezing eggs at a younger age, you preserve their quality at the time of collection, giving you a better chance of successful pregnancy when you are ready. Egg freezing is also recommended for women about to undergo cancer treatment, ovarian surgery, or other medical interventions that may compromise future fertility.
The Egg Freezing Process
The process begins with a fertility assessment including blood tests (AMH, FSH, oestradiol) and a transvaginal ultrasound to evaluate your ovarian reserve. Based on these results, your specialist designs a customised ovarian stimulation protocol involving daily hormone injections for 10-14 days. During stimulation, you attend 3-4 monitoring appointments to track follicle growth via ultrasound and blood tests. When the follicles reach optimal maturity, egg retrieval is performed under light sedation — a short procedure taking approximately 15-20 minutes.
Vitrification Technology
Retrieved eggs are immediately vitrified (ultra-rapid freezing) by our senior embryologists using the latest cryopreservation technology. Vitrification achieves survival rates of over 90% upon thawing, a dramatic improvement over older slow-freezing methods. Frozen eggs can be stored indefinitely without degradation, allowing you to use them months or years later when you are ready to start or expand your family.
The entire process, from initial consultation to egg retrieval, typically takes 2 weeks in Turkey. Annual storage fees are significantly lower than in the UK or US, making Turkey an attractive option for long-term fertility preservation.
